We Are All Babies

The other day, I was reading a friend's blog. I hope she doesn't mind me sharing this. She has narcolepsy (for starters) which keeps her from doing all that she wants to do. She was talking to someone about how discouraging this is for her. Especially when she compares herself to her siblings, whom she greatly admires. He asked her to list the things she does that give her worth. She started listing some things. He stopped her and asked her what value babies have. They can't do ANYTHING. They need someone to do everything for them. Do they have value? What do they do that gives them worth?
Sweet baby Sophie
When I read this, it hit me so powerfully. I have value, not because of the things I do everyday, not because of my talents, not because of anything, really. I have value because I am a daughter of God. I am His. Nothing more. Of course. I love my children not because they are adorable or because they're smart or because of anything else. I would love them even if they weren't any of those things. I love them, they have value to me, because they are mine. They have value to the Lord because they are His. Nothing more. We are all babies. We are all His babies.

Ashton's Piano Recital

Here is my Ashton reciting poetry and playing the piano at this year's recital. I think she's amazing. I doubt you will feel differently! So, without further ado...

Tissues - Who knew?

As promised, here is Sophie's tissue video...
I think she's kinda cute...

If You Give a Baby Spaghetti...

...she might make a mess.

And she might have a blast doing it.

Movie Star

Who knew that a one-year-old would LOVE sunglasses? Apparently Mumsie and Panda did.
I am sure they knew I would love them, too.
That's all.

Mother of the Year

We were at the church last night for a talent show that Ashton was participating in. Sophie had a messy diaper, so I went and quickly changed it. I hurried back to my seat so I wouldn't miss Ashton's part. Then, I saw what I had done. I couldn't stop laughing. Look at this photo. Do you notice what a good mom I am? Look at Sophie's legs. I'll take my award now. Thank you.

BIRTHDAY

Remember this?
Sophie on the day she was born.
Well, in a few short days (ok, 365, but it seems like only a few), she turned into this:
On her first birthday! Her shirt says "I'm the birthday girl!"
Can you believe it? Neither can I. We thought it only fitting to celebrate. So, celebrate we did. We invited family and a few friends over for cupcakes.
She liked them, I think.

A few of her friends brought presents. The star present was a box of tissues from Amie (my precious doula and dear friend). It had directions:
1. Open tissue box.
2. Take out tissues one-by-one until box is empty.
3. Laugh, play and have fun... You're 1!
Here she is holding her tissue box. The video of her playing with it is on Doug's phone. I will have to post it later. She took the first one out and wiped her nose with it. :)
Now, in honor of her first birthday, I will list one thing I love about her.

1. EVERYTHING

What? You really expected me to list only one thing?
She is awesome. She is cute, funny, fun, loving, and so very sweet. She loves dogs. I could make a whole post about her dog love. Maybe I will sometime. She can say "mama," "daddy," "Ashton," "Christian," "Roxie," "dog," and "Jesus." Plus, today, I'm pretty sure she covered her eyes and then uncovered them and said, "there she is!" Oh, and "What's that?" She is a joy.

We love you, Sophie!
